Fratta, the castle, water colour, 1624

The castle, which dated back to the year 1000, was built by
the Bishops of Concordia and given as a feud to the Fratta family. It was destroyed and
rebuilt many times, the final destruction taking place at the hands of Count Eugenio di
Valvason in 1798. At present only the archaeological site exists, but a project of
re-evaluation of the Fratta territory is under way with particular attention being given
to its relationship to the writer Ippolito Nievo, this site being one of the principle
parts of the "Parco Letterario Ippolito Nievo".
The church of Fratta, built at the beginning of 16th century has not conserved
its original architectural character. Inside there is a " Madonna and child with
saints" and an altar-piece on the high altar of the same subject. |
