It was the scene of a battle during the first world war when it was reduced to ruins. The present town was rebuilt in the twenties. and the land reclamation of what today is a fertile and agricultural land was completed. The parish church was rebuilt in Neo-gothic style in 1919, the town hall, also rebuilt after the First World War, houses some Roman artefacts coming from local excavations. In the area of Salsi, over the river Sile, towards the lagoon, the ruins of an ancient customs tower is today visible which is considered by some to be the remains of San Romualdos hermitage. |
