Abbazia S. Maria

This is an important medieval Benedectine center. The Abbazia di Santa Maria that has a basilica lay-out, with three naves and a terminal apse was built in the 10th and 11th centuries. The church offers to visitors frescoes of the 11th and 12th centuries, of great importance, representing the Redemption, Eve, Abraham, the Crucifixion, Christ enthroned, biblical episodes, monks, prophets and evangelists.
The outside, in 16th century style, presents many fragments of the Roman period and of the high Middle-Ages.
